Jamie Oliver, den ”nakne kocken”, har tydligen dragit igång flera aktiviteter för att förbättra den engelska skolmaten. Hans strategi är så långt från Skolmatens vänner som man kan komma. I botten (när vi pratar kommunikation alltså) finns webbplatsen Feed Me Better. Sen har Jamie en (ganska tunn) blogg, eller som dom kallar den Jamie’s Diary. Inte minst, den 23 februari startade BBC Channel Four serien Jamie’s School Dinners, till vilken det förra måndagen knöts en stor TV-sänd debatt med 300 deltagare.

Jamie har tydligen pekat på att Skottland redan är på gång att förbättra sig, och Financial Times rapporterade igår att han blivit bjuden till deras skolor för att äta mat. I artikeln nämns att man har kommit överens med Coca-Cola att ta bort deras automater från skolorna. Flera källar, bl a Teaching Times News berättar att efter Jamie kritiserat produkten ”Turkey Twizzlers” har skolmatsleverantören Scolarest beslutat att sluta leverera den formen av halvfabrikat efter påsk.

Det skall bli spännande att se hur detta utvecklar sig. Vad sägs om följande citat från Husmor Nora (på skolan där serien spelades in förra året): ”I’d say to any other school thinking of making these kind of changes, just do it. We did half and half for a while – offered Jamie’s food and the old menu, and the kids took burger and chips every time. Jesus, I was so fed up, it was beautiful food and they wouldn’t try it, they just kept moaning, ’When are we going to get our proper food back?’ So we stopped that. We haven’t served a chip at this school since the end of May 2004. Now we have 500-600 kids come in and enjoy this lovely food every day and not one moan. They take their salad, yoghurt and fruit and they sit down and eat the lot. Before, they wouldn’t look at veg or salad”
